Every so often, and by every so often I mean almost once in a blue moon, I become totally obsessed with one band. That band is currently Motley Crue, a band I’ve always known but never delved deep into. The Dirt, a movie of their lives aired on Netflix a month or so ago and I’ve been obsessed with everything Motley Crue since I watched it and then listened to their music solidly for seven days straight!
For me music influences so much more than just what I choose to listen to on Spotify, it influences how I dress, my outlook on life and puts a lot of things in perspective (and no, I’m not now shooting heroin just because Nikki Sixx did!). I’ve always loved rock music and it’s always what I gravitate back to. I grew up listening to Gun ‘N’ Roses on my minidisk player and nothing is better than the feeling of singing all the words to Paradise city, and now Dr. Feel Good or The Dirt.
As I’m writing this I’m watching The Dirt in the background and I think the summary of my love for Motley Crue is that they’re bad ass and troubled souls but they’ve also got this aura and vibe that has me hooked. I don’t consider myself ‘bad ass’ but it’s something I think is ‘cool’ so maybe that’s why I’m drawn to their music? So much so I’ve purchased The Dirt book to read more into the band and The Heroin Diaries, a diary from a year of Nikki’s life whilst being a heroin addict (a potentially harrowing read but also an incredibly interesting one).
In terms of influencing the way I dress, my vintage leather jacket (an eBay purchase from when I was about 16 years old) has been pulled out the back of my wardrobe to the front and is a firm staple in my spring wardrobe. Along with neck scarves (that I’ve been loving already) and silver jewellery (a ring from The Great Frog is on my to buy list)). I also think there’s something so great and ‘rock n roll’ about lingerie with a big leather jacket. This bra is a from Fleur of England and although is super pretty I also feel it’s pretty bad ass (which is clearly something I love). Now, I promise I’m not going to dye my hair black and throw TV’s out of hotel windows but Motley Crue have definitely influenced me a lot at the moment and if you haven’t watched The Dirt I would definitely recommend doing so!
